This project was for the developemnt of a web content management system (WCMS) called uFunction that was completed for my final year dissertation project while i was at Glyndwr University. As a result of identifying a potential gap in the market the client approached North Wales based web design agency H4interactive and requested the development of an events management system that could be accessible via the World Wide Web.
The main aim of this project was to develop a system that would provide an easy to use strategy that allows users to search, compare, book and to review venues for a chosen event, in a given location on a specified date. For example, whether somebody is looking for a party room in Wrexham or a wedding venue in Liverpool they will use the application to filter out and display results based on what, when and where is available. At the time technology was to be used as the platform for most modern day innovations and in recent years there has been a considerable rise in portable smart devices meaning users can easily access the internet. With this in mind it was also required that the application is accessible across a variety of different platforms giving users more flexibility allowing them to plan for future events whilst on the go.
The underlying foundations of the system was be based on Umbraco, an open-source Content Management System (CMS) software that is built upon the Microsoft .NET Framework. Umbraco is an extremely powerful tool that provides developers with the perfect foundations to produce state of the art content managed web applications that are effective and intuitive for users.
Having decided to base this project upon Umbraco and given consideration to the nature of the application, the name uFunction was derived.
